Introduction to Ayurveda with Farzaneh Noori & Lynn Hasel

In this workshop, you’ll learn the foundations of Ayurveda, including a greater understanding of Prakruti and Vikruti, as well as basic principles of gunas, doshas, agni and ama. You’ll also learn how to incorporate Ayurveda in your teaching of yoga and create sequences based on specific doshas and the seasons, balancing the doshas with energies in the body.

A unique and all-encompassing path to self-knowledge, Ayurveda means “the science of life," based on the premise that the universe is made up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether. In the human body, these elements are represented by Vata, Pitta and Kapha, the three doshas or “energies." Using fundamental principles of nature, Auurveda helps to promote and maintain health by keeping the body, mind and spirit in a state of balance.

Our health and well-being depend on maintaining the right balance of the three doshas. Every one of us has their own distinct, ideal equilibrium; when any one of the doshas accumulates in the body beyond a desirable limit, the body loses its balance–or “Vikriti"–and becomes more vulnerable to disease. When this happens, Ayurveda prescribes specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines and treatments to help reduce the excess dosha, restoring the body's natural balance.


FARZANEH NOORI is the co-founder and owner of Yoga House. She has completed the Ayurvedic Medicine Practitioner Certificate Program at the American University of Complementary Medicine and has been awarded Board Certification as a Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor by NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association). Farzaneh is also an ERYT 500 (Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level) with Yoga Alliance and has over 25 years of experience practicing and teaching yoga to a broad range of students. Her intention is to make Ayurveda accessible and adaptable in modern day living.

LYNN HASEL is a Registered Hatha Yoga Teacher-500 and Certified Ayurveda Practitioner. Since 1990, Lynn has been a student of the Meditation Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the guidance of Swami Veda Bharati, a disciple of Swami Rama. She continues to learn that slow breathing, slow-moving yoga and meditation help quiet the mind, calm emotions and bring you peace, harmony and joy. Lynn writes health-related blogs posted on her website, She facilitates mini silence retreats (half-day) for stress reduction and rejuvenation.
