YOGA 411: Safe Sun Salutations
The famous Surya Namaskar, or "Sun Salutation," is a series of poses linked in sequence that forms the centerpiece of many yoga classes. When properly executed, the Sun Salutation serves to warm the body, preparing it for deeper poses while working the cardiovascular system. Surya Namaskar also takes the joints through a healthful range of motion, increasing the flow of synovial fluid and nutrients to the cartilage cushioning the joints.

However, given the repetitive nature of any sequence of movements, when performed incorrectly and repeatedly over a long period of time, the Sun Salutation has the potential to exacerbate inherent weakness, leading to injury, particularly in the lower back and shoulders. In this YOGA 411 class with Yoga House instructor Rebecca Miller, you'll learn the correct alignment for each pose in the sequence and how to gradually build the strength and flexibility required to maintain that alignment while flowing gracefully from pose to pose. This class is appropriate for both beginning and continuing students.

REBECCA MILLER is a Certified Yoga Instructor (CYI), who received her teaching training through Yoga Works, Yogafit and Power Pilates.  Additionally she is an AFAA certified fitness instructor. Having studied with a plethora of senior teachers, she also participated in the Yoga works mentorship program for a year along with assisting in the Yoga Works teacher-training program. Rebecca has been practing at Yoga House for the past ten years and joined the teaching staff two years ago.
